The Green Economy: Does it Include You?
The green economy undoubtedly includes me and everyone. We are one in the earth like one big family and therefore we all should take part in order to protect our planet in terms of protecting both the environment and fighting against climate change regardless of the economic growth.
What should I do to be part of the Green Economy? Could the tree planting be part of it? How can I plant more trees as many as possible in my country and everyone gets involve?
In Cambodia, 30 years ago, 1.7 million people were believed to be killed, executed and death during the Khmer rouge regime. It is hoped that many memorial sites should be constructed in order to memorize this event, to keep it for the next generation and to prevent the history from repeating itself in Cambodia. The tree planting will be playing an important role as a nature for remembrance.
The plantation of LOVE is an event for the survivors of the Khmer rouge regime, the former soldiers’ Khmer rouge and the third parties coming together to plant the trees as many as possible at every cooperative sites, executive sites, security centers and other necessity areas in Cambodia within a specific period of time. It seems quite a big issue because it needs participation and collaboration of all Cambodians especially the Government.
One main thing I should do is to encourage people to participate wholeheartedly in this event in order to bring peace and initiate national reconciliation while they could also protect the environment and fight against climate change. It is called “National Reconciliation through Nature”.
The survivors, the former Khmer Rouge’s soldiers and all involved persons have to face each other. They will be encouraged to plant trees which represent a special symbol of pardon, love, struggle, reconciliation and remembrance.
- The Tree of Remembrance: As a Cambodian, I was thankfully not born during that period. However, according to my study and listening from elder people, I believe it is true. What I should do is to plant tree in which I could remember the past and prevent myself not to follow those leaders.
- The Tree of Pardon: I also hope that I could see those former Khmer Rouge’s soldiers planting tree as a symbol of requesting a pardon to the survivors. Even some people have not been brought to justice (ECCC); they should recognize that they were part of those tragedies.
- The Tree of Reconciliation: Moreover, as known, some survivors could forgive those people and should plant tree which is a good symbol of peace and reconciliation between them. Both will plant trees together and take care of them too until each side is dead.
- The Tree of Love: In contrast, if those survivors could not forgive them, they also could plant tree in which it is a representative of their love to their lovers (death).
- The Tree of Struggle: You know, in Cambodia, we have Khmer Rouge Tribunal. No one knows exactly what would happen to the court’s building when it comes to an end. That tree has to be planted surrounding the court. It represents the struggle of Civil Party, Witness, Expert, Prosecutor, Judge, Investigating Judge, Lawyer or ECCC’s staff.
The nature of remembrance of the Khmer rouge past will be attracting many tourists. They could not come to see only nice places in Cambodia but they could know what had happened in the past. In 10 years, those trees will contribute a totally to be part of “Clean City, Clean resort and Good service”.
Do you think so?
